I know I’m not the only one who is excited for warm coffee dates, crisp air, apple cider donuts, and pumpkin patches.
In the month of August, I usually put the brakes on when it comes to buying clothes because I really start to question whether the pieces I want will still be useful to me through the change of seasons. Fall is my favorite time of the year as far as fashions go.
I’ve compiled a list of must-have pieces for this fall in the form of a wish-list. I do have some of these basic pieces in my wardrobe already, but you can never have too many cute sweaters or comfy scarves.
I have been in the market for a new “leather” jacket for some time now. I typically go for faux leather. Biker jackets are essential because they can be worn over all your favorite t-shirts and flannels for an edgier look. Pair it with a pair of skinny jeans and booties and you will look so put together for the season.
Both of these options are completely vegan.
Over-the-knee boots have been a huge trend since last year, and I have to say that I love it! I am sometimes weary of trendy pieces, as I try to go for things that are classic and won’t ever go out of style. However, I think that the statement you make with a great pair of over-the-knee boots will be in style for many seasons to come.
With or without a heel, I find them to be so chic and so perfect for fall in so many versatile ways. When it is still warm outside in September and October, you can pair these with a cute dress and you will automatically look autumn appropriate. You can also wear these with skinny jeans when the weather gets cooler.
My dream pair are the Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots in the taupe color, but I would have to practically hand over my first born child for those. (They’re $800!)
These are the ones I’ve been eyeing.
Neutral Trench Coat
I invested in a tan colored trench coat (similar to the one pictured – mine is sold out) last year, and it really came in handy both for the fall season and again in the spring. It is perfect for going to work or to a nicer occasion. They also aren’t too heavy for the days when the sun is out and there is just a slight chill in the air.
Trench coats never go out of style!
Cape or Poncho
Another trend I got on board with last fall were capes and ponchos. I just find them to be so comfortable and warm, yet chic with a pair of skinny jeans and over-the-knee boots. They are so easy to just throw on and look like you tried harder than you actually did, and I always got compliments whenever I wore them. I try to look for ones that are more flattering and don’t make me look like I am wearing a giant bag for a top. There are some really cute ones with belts out now that look professional enough to wear to work in the winter, as well.
(I hope the first option goes on sale so I can get it!)
One of the best purchases I’ve ever made for my wardrobe was a pair of boyfriend jeans. I bought mine at an American Eagle outlet store in the dead of winter two years ago for $14.99, and I still wear them constantly. They can be worn in summer, spring, and fall as well. They are just so comfortable and versatile. You can dress them up or down – I prefer to pair mine with sandals or sneakers. I can picture them with a biker jacket, maybe a bodysuit underneath, and ankle booties or sneakers.
The only thing I am careful of when I wear these is to wear a more fitting top because you don’t want to look like you’re drowning in your clothes. At first, I was afraid that boyfriend jeans would be completely unflattering on me, as I have short legs. But once I found the right pair, I instantly fell in love.
Another piece that goes along with the theme of comfort are blanket scarves. These are so perfect because you can layer them over an outfit and simply take it off it you get too warm, or bundle up in them when you’re sitting in a cold classroom or office. I like these most when they are draped over your shoulders – sometimes when they are wrapped up around the neck they become uncomfortable and look too big.
These are probably my most favorite thing to wear in this entire post. I have a rack in my closet solely dedicated to ankle boots – just a slight obsession with them (in all different colors and styles), and I miss wearing them so much! I find that they go with almost everything in my fall wardrobe and are the perfect way to dress up your outfit without sacrificing comfort.
I recently bought both of these pairs on sale for the season, and I can’t wait to style them!
Everyone knows that turtleneck sweaters are a staple for your wardrobe in the fall and winter. I love to bundle up in big sweaters in the colder seasons, and even layer them with jackets and a pair of black skinny jeans or leggings – if the sweater is long enough.
You can find these literally everywhere. The turtleneck has been very trendy this year even for the warmer seasons, I’ve seen a lot of cut-off sleeve sweaters in stores. Forever 21 has some great ones for under $20.
Even though I am not quite ready for summer to end, writing this has made me want to go crazy online shopping for more of my favorite fall pieces, most of which are linked in the photos of this post!
