Happy 1st Day of Fall!
Yes, fall is my favorite season – I’m not afraid to be basic. It always has been, and Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. There are few things that make me as happy as the feeling of walking outside on a crisp autumn day.
As my life becomes busier than ever during the fall season with school and work, I am always in need of a Sunday afternoon filled with my favorite things to relax to. These are the typical things I like to do on a day when I just want to take care of myself – both mentally and physically.
(Clearly very excited to be in my favorite place in the world – my bed!)
The first thing I will usually do in the morning is open the blinds to let the sun shine in my bedroom, or even open the windows if it is cool enough. I find that doing this right away sets my mood for the morning. After I make my way to the bathroom to perform my every-day hygiene ritual, I will head to the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee. There is nothing quite as relaxing as drinking coffee in the morning, especially when it is pumpkin flavored 😉
If I don’t enjoy my coffee at home, I love love love to go on coffee dates at local cafés with a friend or my boyfriend.
If you know me personally, you know the true extent of my passion for candles. My best friend and I always laugh about the time I decided to take advantage of the 3-wick candle sale at Bath and Body Works on Black Friday (the very first store we went into) – thus, we spent the whole day walking the mall lugging around a 10-pound bag. Nothing relaxes me like my favorite scents filling my room. My favorite fall candles from B&BW are Marshmallow Fireside, Autumn, Leaves – and of course, Pumpkin Pie.
Usually, while I am burning my candles, I enjoy tidying up my room while also listening to my favorite fall playlists. I usually just pick one on Spotify according to my mood that particular day. Some of my favorite artists/bands to listen to during this time of year are: The Lumineers, Vance Joy, Hozier, and Of Monsters and Men.
Perhaps my most favorite thing to do on any given day to relax is to get ready for the day – and I mean really taking the time to experiment with my makeup and hair and enjoy the process. Who doesn’t love a long shower and having the time to really take care of their bodies? I love getting ready on days where I don’t necessarily have anywhere to be, no rush. I feel more relaxed when I feel confident with my appearance, if that makes sense to anyone else.
Not only do I enjoy drinking my favorite fall flavors, I also enjoy baking them. One of my favorite recipes is this one for these incredibly delicious Pumpkin Whoopie Pies. I’ve been making these for years and they are always such a hit. Click the picture for the recipe!
Sometimes I will be in the mood to bake an apple walnut pie, or cook a meal like a pot of chili or some soup all while watching one of my favorite fall movies – aka The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, or The Corpse Bride.
If I have the time, I enjoy reading a good book or binge-watching my favorite series on a lazy day.
In the event that we take a trip for the day, I love to go somewhere where I can walk around and enjoy the weather (and shop!). Last year, David and I enjoyed the most perfect day in New Hope, PA where we had hot apple cider, explored the little shops, took countless photos, and had a beautiful dinner on an outside deck next to a fire.
So there you have it, the perfect fall Sunday – filled with warmth, blankets, good food, and great smells. Even just doing a couple of these things will undoubtedly make you instantly happier and more relaxed.
Don’t forget to take care of yourself, inside and out. Take mental health days if you need it, your body will thank you for it.
